Friends continue to exist on Nintendo Switch 2, but more people will be a bit easier than on Switch 1, Nintendo has confirmed with Polygon in a recent interview.
The center of the friends list system on Switch 2 is still the same as on Switch 1. That’s why you can transfer it to a new console without much trouble. But the only number of numbers you have to punch for each friend now is optional.
Instead, you can scan the QR code with the Nintendo Switch phone app, the vice president of the player and the experience of the Bill Trinen product told Polygon. You can also add notes to everyone, this can help you remember who they are if they change the username.
Trinen said these improvements are very important to do because of things like Gamechat, voice and video chat applications like Nintendo’s discord. Gamechat only works with your friends and even has a special C button in Joy-Con. Trinen said that the way it copies the direct experience you have in the same room is very important for what we want from a chat system.
In other words, Switch 2 will not revolutionize how you add friends to Nintendo’s online service. You will not be able to search for someone’s username and click on a button. You will need to find some other ways outside the dashboard to share your friend’s code or QR code with someone. Perhaps when Switch’s third repetition is released, Nintendo will participate in all other social platforms in making this process less painful. But it will not do it with Switch 2, set up to debut in June.
