Even with inflation, Switch 2 is Nintendo's most expensive dashboard

The event revealed that Nintendo Switch 2 of January has removed the dashboard, but leaving a lot of details that have not been answered until now. After the initial revelation, I combined a price analysis for the control panel, using Nintendo’s historical valuation strategies to guide my thoughts. My conclusion then it will cost $ 399.

I… wrong. Nintendo Switch 2 will be released in June starting from $ 449.99, with the $ 499.99 version including Mario Kart.

At that price, Nintendo Switch 2 will be the most expensive console that Nintendo has ever released, with some margins. And even adjusted by inflation, and when considering the various packages of previous Nintendo gaming devices, Nintendo Switch 2 will still be the most expensive Nintendo control interface ever done!

It is still not entirely in June, so I cannot update this chart to reflect the price adjusted by inflation for the same day of the Switch 2 launch, but the price from February this year is quite illustrated for the change here.

[Ed. note: An earlier version of this list didn’t include information on pack-in games included in some console releases, and didn’t include the various NES bundles and prices. Adjusted for inflation, only the very first NES release — a tricked-out bundle originally limited to test markets only — would be more expensive than the Nintendo Switch 2. Once you compare it to the more widely released Control Deck release just a few months later, the relative cost of the Nintendo Switch 2 is clear.]

Nintendo Switch 2 June 2025 $ 449 N/a
Nintendo Switch 2 (W/ Mario Kart World) June 2025 $ 499 N/a

But that is not just me wrong! Nearly 57% of the respondents in our polls agreed with the price of $ 399 for my prediction and only 9% thought it would be at $ 449. . It is still too early to say.

The previous report from Bloomberg, quoted many analysts in the industry, closed the price from $ 399 to $ 499, so did it nail it?

In terms of price, Bloomberg analysts talked unanimously when expecting Switch 2 costs at least $ 399 – once again, agreeing with Polygon’s analysis. Some people think that it may rise higher, up to $ 449 or even $ 499, motivated by the cost of components and fears of the impact of our tariffs. At $ 499, it will cost the same as PlayStation 5 (and $ 50 more than a model for digital).

This is once again a list of all current control panels, currently including Switch 2 and its confirmed price:

PlayStation 5 November 2020 $ 499 $ 499
PlayStation 5 (Digital) November 2020 $ 399 $ 449 (slim, digital version)

Steam deck February 2022 $ 399 $ 399
Nintendo Switch 2 June 2025 $ 449 N/a

With a price of 449 dollars, Switch 2 will switch to the toe with the price with comprehensive variants of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, suitable for the boot price in 2017 of Switch suitable for $ 299 required for PS4 Slim and Xbox One S. Not just you – everything is really more expensive!

One final consideration: Although the specifications of the Switch 2 actually put it on the Steam floor in some main types, such as resolution and includes a 4K compatible dock out of the box, I don’t expect Valve’s mobile gaming PC to defeat Nintendo for price. The Steam Deck APU is taking place three years at this time, and a little long in the teeth, but it is difficult to argue with the value embedded in Valve’s store. (I bought it Undertale With a recent dollar just to have another copy.) Therefore, with Valve continues to name itself and with Microsoft reported to participate in mobile gaming space this year with ASUS, Nintendo no longer has exclusive lock in the mobile gaming market.

Update: I have updated the title and some opening paragraphs, along with the first price comparison chart, to reflect that when it is assessed on the same basis as Nintendo Switch 2, yes and no packaging games, in fact, Nintendo Console has ever been released, when adjusted to inflation.
